A Word of Warning
Beware - all may not be as it seems.
It has become increasingly apparent with the ever growing online sales of musical instruments that some companies offering bargain priced items are selling you complete rubbish.
Most reputable violin shops and repairers will have had many instruments brought in by customers who have bought online only to find out later the violin, cello or whatever they have invested in doesn't seem to work properly and is basically not fit for purpose.
This can include things like unfitted bridges and pegs, peg holes drilled in the wrong places, ridiculously poor soundposts, incorrect neck angles and unseasoned timber. The list goes on.
As an example, Beare & Son have in the past been offered brand new violin outfits (ie with a case and a bow) for as little as U.S. $8.
Can you imagine how bad these violins were?
Why would we ruin a reputation built up over decades by selling cheap junk?
Learning to play a stringed instrument is not the easiest thing in the world and if it has not been made correctly in the first place - will be even harder or virtually impossible to play.
Just because it looks like a violin in the picture doesn't mean it will play like a violin!
